Katia Chupashko is in her first year with the company. She recently graduated with honors from The George Washington University where she
double majored in Business Administration and Dance. As a Presidential Arts Scholar, she had the opportunity to work with guest artists such as Miguel Guttierrez, Jennifer Nugent, Benjamin Levy and Neil Greenberg. She has also had the opportunity to perform with The Maida Withers Dance Construction Company and Clancyworks. She would like to thank the company for a great first year.
Shu-Chen Cuff
is in her fourth year with the company. She was born in Taiwan and studied with the Tsoying Dance Division in Kaoshiung, Taiwan. She received a B.F.A. from the University of Florida's New World School of the Arts (NWSA) where she graduated on the Dean's list with honors. She performed in the Dance Festival in Taipei, Taiwan, Tokyo, Japan and in Malaysia. She has performed professionally with the Miami Ballet (1996-1998) and the Nevada Ballet Theater, NBT (1998-2002). Her performances include In the Glow of the Night, Les Sylphides, The Nutcraker, Romeo and Juliet, Coppilia, Dracula, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, Don Quixote, as well as other classical and contemporary work. She is also currently a member of the faculty with the Arlington Center for Dance and The Metropolitan Fine Arts Center.
Connie Fink
is in her fourth year with the company.� She has danced for numerous companies and choreographers in the Washington, D.C. and New York City areas, including City Dance Ensemble, Mason/Rhynes Productions, Doug Varone, Dan Wagoner, Meriam Rosen and Ed Tyler. Ms. Fink received her Master's of Fine Arts degree in Dance from the University of Maryland, College Park. � Ms. Fink was recognized as an Emerging Performer at the 3rd Annual Metro D.C. Dance Awards in 2004�and Individual Performance for Harmonica Breakdown choreographed by Jane Dunley in 2005.� She is an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Theater and Dance at the George Washington University and teaches in Montgomery County Public Schools.
Miyako Nitadori
is in her eighth year with the company. She studied the methodology
of the Royal Academy of Dancing at Kimura Izumi Ballet Academy in Japan. There she obtained the title of ARAD (Advanced Royal Academy of Dancing) in 1994. While attending college in Japan she studied many forms of dance with an emphasis on modern and Japanese dance. After working with the Japan Ballet Association and other dance groups, she came to the DC metropolitan area and has worked for Mr. Burgess since 1999. She also danced for Train Wreck Dance Company. Ms. Nitadori performed a lead role of a 2003 and 2004 national tour of Burgess' Nightingale, as well as in the international tour of Tracings. Ms. Nitadori was recognized as the Outstanding Individual Performer from the Annual Metro D.C. Dance Awards, 2003.
Leonardo Torres
is in his fourth year with the company. He attended East Carolina University
where he was pursuing a foreign language and business degree. He continues
his studies at the George Mason University where he is pursuing a Bachelor of
Fine Arts in Dance. He began studying dance with DanceSpace Company under the
direction of Cindy Mancini and Joseph Carrow, performing many lead roles.
He has also worked with several known choreographers such as Keith Thompson, Carla Perlo, Reggie Glass, Helenius J. Wilkins and the Train Wreck Dance Company. He performed a leading role in the 2003 national tour of Burgess' Nightingale. Leonardo wishes to thank his family for all their support.
Tati (Maria Del Carmen) Valle-Riestra
is in her sixth year with the company. She was originally trained in Latin America where she received critical acclaim for dancing with various contemporary dance and dance theater companies. In Ecuador and Peru the companies included Humanizarte Pata Cabra and Integro with which she toured extensively, and she has also performed as part of the international arm of the American Dance Festival. Recently she reset Burgess' work Silk Roads on the National Ballet of Peru in Lima. She has been a dance teacher since 1991.
Kathleen Weitz is in her first season with Dana Tai Soon Burgess & Co. She studied at the Washington Academy of Performing Arts and at London Studio Centre in London, England, where she earned her diploma in both classical and contemporary dance. She has toured the United Kingdom and Germany with Images of Dance, performing works by Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, and Mark Baldwin, as well as many classical works. Most recently Ms. Weitz performed for two years with Washington Reflections Dance Company, and both taught and choreographed for the Dance Institute of Washington. She is originally from Seattle
