The award-winning DC-based company presents Images from the Embers, a work that delves into wartime love and loss in a time-shifting narrative that unfolds through sweeping choreography and striking visual design. Choreographer Burgess says Images from the Embers was partly inspired by the World War II-era writings of Marguerite Duras. Lighting is created by renowned designer Jennifer Tipton. Original music is by Aaron Leitko. Costumes are by Judy Hansen. Set design is by Sara Brown. "Embers is a new evolution in the dance aesthetic of the company," says Burgess, "but the themes in it are ones that lie at the core of all our works: the multi-layered intersections of different cultures." The 14-year-old company has performed at prominent venues like the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian, the Lincoln Theater, and New York's Asia Society. DTSBCo is also garnering fans abroad, having performed recently in Peru, Ecuador, and Latvia. Burgess's choreography has won critical praise from the Washington Post and Dance magazine, among others.
